Local History Morning 2019

Event

Join us and members of the town’s other heritage societies for Bexhill Local History Morning on Saturday, 21st September at Manor Barn. The morning is being run alongside Local History Day which is now fully booked. The morning includes an opening address from Dr. Julian Porter, Curator of Bexhill Museum, an entertaining talk on Pitt and the Martello Towers by Geoff Hutchinson, local author and historian, and refreshments.

10.15am: Keynote address Dr. Julian Porter, Bexhill Museum

11.00am: Choose one of our four options to enjoy during the morning:

  1. Exploring the treasures of our seaside town. Alexis Markwick, local historian and cartographer. Minibus travel and short walks.
  2. British and German soldiers in Bexhill 1793-1815. Dr. Peter Boyden, President, Bexhill Hanoverian Study Group. Short walk.
  3. Bexhill in the Second World War. Dave Hatherell, Bexhill Local Study History Group. Talk*.
  4. Pitt and the Martello Towers. Geoff Hutchinson, author and local historian. Talk*.

(These sessions are repeated after lunch.)
*Our morning talks will be followed by a short pre-lunch tour of the Manor Gardens conducted by Ian Woodland, Bexhill Museum
12.30pm: Buffet lunch with vegan and ‘gluten free’ options
1.30pm: Choose a second option from the morning list to enjoy after lunch
(Our afternoon talks will be followed by an introduction to the local authority’s ‘Community Asset Register’ and how we can use it to help protect our community assets)
3.15pm: Closing remarks and plenary by Raymond Konyn, Bexhill Heritage
